Titre de série : Journal de physique, Vol.48 No.5 Titre : An application of the optical microscopy to the determination of the curvature elastic modulus of biological and model membranes Type de document : articles et extraits Auteurs : I. Bivas, Auteur ; O. Aguerre-Chariol, Auteur ; P. Bothorel, Auteur ; P. Hanusse, Auteur ; J. Lalanne, Auteur Année de publication : 1987 Importance : p.855-867 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 0302-0738 Langues : Français (fre) Résumé : A new method is proposed to measure the curvature elastic modulus kc of a membrane, by observing the thermal induced fluctuations of the shape of a spherical vesicle. Observations of the liposomes were carried out under a microscope working in the regime of Nomarski differential interference contrast. The authors show that the value of kc thus measured is the curvature elastic modulus of free flip-flop. [Journal Article; A16; 28 Refs]

Rettori, Auteur ; Jacques Villain, Auteur Année de publication : 1988 Importance : p.257-267 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 0302-0738 Langues : Français (fre) Résumé : The decay of a profile artificially produced on a crystal surface below its roughening transition is studied by means of a qualitative theory. In the case of a bidirectional modulation the height h(t) is a linear function of time t and the lifetime tau is proportional to lambda /sup 3/h(0), where lambda is the wavelength. As suggested by Bonzel et al. (1984) the formation of facets is a sensitive information to determine whether a surface is below its roughening temperature. Near the flat part the profile has a (x-x/sub 0/)/sup 3/2/ singularity as in a crystal at equilibrium The case of a unidirectional modulation is still open although some heuristic treatments give a qualitative agreement with experimental results.

Titre de série : Journal de physique, Vol.48 No.3 Titre : The roughening transition of crystal surfaces. I. Static and dynamic renormalization theory, crystal shape and facet growth Type de document : articles et extraits Auteurs : P. Nozières, Auteur ; F. Gallet, Auteur Année de publication : 1987 Importance : p.353-367 Langues : Français (fre) Résumé : The renormalization approach to the roughening transitions is reconsidered, both in a static and in a dynamic picture. Earlier results based on an asymptotic approximation are corrected, especially as regards the interface mobility. For a tilted interface, or in the presence of an applied force F, a new length scale appears, which must be compared to the correlation length xi . As a result, the roughening transition is blurred, the crossover occurring below T/sub R/. This crossover is approached from both ends, via a 'stopped renormalization' technique on the rough side, within a 'discrete step' picture in the faceted state. At this last stage, the discussion is mostly qualitative. Comparison with experiment is done elsewhere.
